Musician. Cellist for Wizzard & Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) fronted by both Roy Wood & Jeff Lynne during their 1970s heyday. He started playing cello at the age of 4 and won a scholarship to a music school when he was 10. Joined ELO in 1972 but left the same year to join Wizzard. In 1973, he rejoined ELO and played on the albums "Eldorado: A Symphony" (1974), "Face the Music" (1975), "A New World Record" (1976), "Out of the Blue" (1977) & "Discovery" (1979). The classic lineup of Lynne, Bev Bevan, Kelly Groucutt, Richard Tandy, Louis Clark, Mik Kaminski, Melvyn Gale and McDowell released a string of Top 40 hit singles and best-selling albums during their 1970s heyday. In 2017, ELO were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
