Kathryn T. "Kathy" Herman, 85, Manitowoc, with her children at her side, passed away peacefully Monday, December 13 at St Mary's, Felician Village due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.

Kathy was a lifelong resident of Manitowoc, born on September 16, 1936 to Glenn and Elaine (Wilson) Thuerwachter in Manitowoc. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1954, and went on to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree in Speech Therapy from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, class of 1958. At UW Madison she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. On June 21, 1958 she married Charles (Chuck) M. Herman at Holy Innocents, Manitowoc, who preceded her in death on January 12, 2006.

Kathy, as so many women of her generation did, focused her efforts and dedicated her time to her family and raising her children. She and Chuck were members of Sacred Heart Parish, Manitowoc. She immersed herself in her family's activities playing active roles at the Manitowoc Two Rivers YMCA, and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. As well, she shared her talents and gifts with the many community and service organizations she was a part of; member and past president of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), member and past president of the Junior Service League, and past member of the Board of Education of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. As her family grew, she looked for part-time employment opportunities and became a substitute teacher with the Manitowoc Public Schools. She went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in English from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc and became a fulltime English teacher for the district at Wilson & Washington Junior High Schools. As a lifelong learner, Kathy in 1985, earned her Master's Degree in Education Psychology and Counseling & Guidance from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and became a member of the UW-Milwaukee chapter of Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity. She was fortunate to be able to leverage all her skills and education as a Guidance Counselor at Washington Junior High School, retiring from that position in 2000 joining both the Manitowoc County and Wisconsin Retired Teachers Associations.

Kathy was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2008. Through her 13+ year journey with the disease, she poured herself into Parkinson's research information and material, always believing there was more that could be done. She never lost her hope and maintained her spirit and energy as the many and varied symptoms surfaced. This sustained her until her passing.

Kathy is survived by her children: Marc Herman of Manitowoc, Eric (Mary) Herman of Holland, MI, and Amy Ramminger of Kiel; grandchildren: Kathryn (Matthew) Lyter, Matthew (Kaitlyn) Herman and Elizabeth Herman and Max Ramminger; nephews and niece: Michael (Kimberly) Schulze, Peter (Melissa) Schulze, and Ann Marie Schulze. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Elaine; her husband Charles; and her brother Glenn "Buzz" Thuerwachter.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Kathy's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. Rev.
