Katie was unexpectedly called to eternal life on November 24th, 2021, at age 35 from natural causes in Chicago, IL. Katie was born January 18th, 1986, in Green Bay, WI, and was adopted by Dr. John and Laurale Stern of Manitowoc, WI. She was very cute, active, vivacious, and had many friends as she grew up. Katie was enrolled in the Manitowoc Catholic school system, and graduated in 2004 from Roncalli High School, where she was in the Roncalli Singers, and participated in school plays, cross country, soccer, and especially basketball. In 2009, she graduated from UW-Madison with a BSW degree, and later received medical assistant certification from Northwestern College in Chicago. In recent years, she worked as a medical assistant in the Chicago area and was a loving mother to her sweet and beautiful children. We'll all miss Katie's unique exuberant personality and her warm, tight, long, loving hugs!

Katie is survived by her husband: Humberto Acevedo, and her children: Humberto Junior "Beto" and Ariana (ages 6 and 4), Chicago IL; her parents: Dr. John and Laurale Stern, Manitowoc WI; her sister: Maureen Stern and her daughters Chloe and Greta, Manitowoc WI; She is further survived by a loving extended family of many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her birth family in Illinois and Michigan. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Michael and Margaret Stern; Robert and Elizabeth Harkness; and her aunt: Susan Basten. She was very close to all of them.

Due to high COVID activity currently, a memorial service or life celebration will be determined in the future, as COVID activity allows. Cremation has taken place and a private committal service will be held for the family at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home in Manitowoc and Benson Family Funeral Home in Chicago assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to assist Humberto, Beto, and Ariana. Donations can be sent to Katie Stern- Acevedo Memorial Fund, c/o Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 N Water Street, Manitowoc WI 54220.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
