Our cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, LouJean Shaw Stanger returned home and was reunited with her family on December 15, 2021.
I was born on December 9, 1931 to my parents, Wilford and Lucille Bingham Shaw, and had the privilege of living on Elberta Drive in North Ogden in a four room house my father had built next to my Grandpa William Elijah Shaw's home and farm in North Ogden.
We had wonderful experiences with farming, farm animals, raising crops, bee-keeping and taking the cows to pasture for the first ten years of my life. My sister, LaVern was born and lived here also. Then my dad helped Grandpa build another house in 1941 over by the church, and my dad also built on Fruitland Drive and picked up our home and moved it to a section of the basement he had built and added on to the house, my brothers Jerald (Tracy) (Phyllis Hadley, deceased) and Marvin (Jan) were born there.
In 1950, I graduated from Weber High School which was still located on Washington Blvd., between 11th and 12th Street in Ogden, Utah.
In 1951, I married my Weber High School sweetheart, Robert Dean Minard and started work at Continental Bakery in Ogden, Utah. My three children, Bruce (Beverly Linford & Kayleen Campbell both deceased), Craig, and Ann (Steven L.) Brunetti were born. I also changed jobs and went to work at the Naval Supply depot in Clearfield, Utah.
I didn't work while I was having my family. In 1961 Bob and I divorced, and I went back to work at Defense Depot Ogden to support my family. I worked at DDO until the summer of 1989.
In 1962, I married Charles Raymond Roberts in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Ray also adopted my three children, which took a couple of years and then we were all sealed in the Logan Temple.
Ray has three children from his first marriage, David married to JoAnn Barth Roberts, Hubert and Leah Rae Roberts Rawson and Mark Steven and Kay Roberts. Some of them chose to be sealed to Ray and I in the temple. We have several special grandchildren and great grandchildren from these families.
When Ray and I married in November 1962, my Shaw grandparents had just passed away in the last couple years and my father asked if we wanted to move in Grandpa Shaw's home until we decided where we wanted to live.
We eventually bought Grandpa Shaw's home, started to open the attic and that space. Then in 1979 when Ray retired from Hill Air Force Base, he put a 3 floor addition onto the east side of the house. A basement family room, a main floor living room, and in my attic an additional room east of our bedroom with a deck that opened out over the north with a beautiful view of Ben Lomond peak.
Ray loved scouting and was the Scoutmaster in our LDS ward for over 10 years. Cancer took him in 1980 in September.
I had worked at Defense Depot Ogden with Irvin Owen Stanger for many years. His wife Elaine died of cancer in 1978 and after Ray's death we started dating.
Eventually, Chub, as he was known, and I were engaged in August 1982 and married. Chub had six children from his first marriage. We had a wonderful marriage from 1982 until he passed away in 1998. Chub had a very special family also, and I have enjoyed loving, knowing, and associating with them. They are: William & Patricia Sevy, Scott & Margene Stanger, Randy & LeAnn Stanger, Marlin & Liz (deceased) Kerbs, Mark Stanger and Teresa & Tom (deceased) Edwards.
Between all three marriages, I am not sure on counts for kids, grandkids, and great grand kids, but I have loved them all.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, 11:00 am, North Ogden 1st Ward, 626 East 2600 North, North Ogden, Utah, with a viewing prior to services 9:40 – 10:40 am. A viewing Sunday, 5-7 pm, at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
