Garvin Brooks, husband of Essie Mays Brooks died at his home Friday, December 19, 1958, in the 69th year of his age. Originally from Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina, Garvin married Essie on December 20, 1913. With a strong commitment to the institution of marriage, he granted permission for his daughter Tessie to marry at age 17. He was formerly employed at the Pennsylvania Railroad Freight Station. He is predeceased by his father Wallace Brooks (1869-1935)* and mother Luvenia Peeples (1870-1911)* Surviving are his wife, daughter Tessie Taylor Jones and brother Wallace, both of Trenton. Friends were invited to call on the Church 7 - 9 p. m. Monday, December 22. Services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. December 23 at the Holy Cross Church of Christ, with Rev. Joseph J. Walker, officiating and under direction of funeral director, S.J. Newsome.

Note: Wallace Brooks' DOB estimated to be circa 1869 based on his age being 20 years old when his wife conceived Garvin. His date of death would then be circa 1935. Luvenia Brooks' DOB estimated to be circa 1870 based on her age being 19 years old when she conceived Garvin. Her date of death would then be circa 1911. See attached Garvin Brooks Application for Certificate of Birth signed by Judge Peeples in 1951.
