The following information was provided by contributor William McDaniel:

"John Franklin Meekins was the son of Enoch J. and Rachel Meekins of Little Rock, S.C. He moved to Montgomery, Alabama and married a Miss Rebecca J. Oram on October 30th, 1857. This couple had one child, Ella Meekins, born in 1859. His occupation during 1860 was a "clerk."On 30th of April 1861, he enlisted as a Private in the Montgomery Mounted Rifles, Company K 1st Alabama Cavalry for 12 months. On 1 August 1862, he re-enlisted for the war as a Private in Company "H," 51st Alabama Cavalry ("Partisan Rangers").

J. F. Meekins passed on in Florence on April 7th, 1864. His daughter married, went on to college, and was Principal of the El Paso, TX High School from 1885-1897."
