OBITUARY: YORK Cecelia T. (Benedict) Snyder, 76, died Thursday, September 18 at York Hospital after a courageous 31/2 year battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She was the wife of H. Elstun Snyder, Jr., with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 15, 2003. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Saint Paul's Wolf's United Church of Christ, 4501 Wolf's Church Rd., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Mathew Stillman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Born January 31, 1927 in Conewago Township, she was the only child of the late Theodore C. and Mary (Ness) Benedict. She was a member of the Class of 1943, West York High School, where she was one of the school's youngest graduates. Following graduation, she worked for A.B. Farquhar Co. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Steve of Lebanon, and David of York. After her first son, Steve was born in 1954, she became a full-time housewife. A devoted wife and loving mother, she enjoyed cooking meals for her family and canning fruits and vegetables. She and Elstun took many bus trips around the nation. Mrs. Snyder was an active member at Saint Paul's Wolf's United Church of Christ, where she played the piano in Sunday School for many years. She and Elstun loved watching sports together. They met for the first time at a Hershey Bears hockey game. Her favorite team was the Baltimore Orioles. Cecelia had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. For more than 30 years, she and Elstun attended York Suburban High School boys' basketball games. She was a member of York Springetts Chapter of AARP and the Galleria Gallopers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul's Wolf's United Church of Christ, 4501 Wolf's Church Road, York, PA 17404. The Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA is in charge of arrangements.
