Francis T. "Frank" Abraham, Jr, 90, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, in Slidell
Frank was a Hero to his family. He was a wise and wonderful Husband, Dad, Granddad and Great Granddad, professional Baseball Player, U.S. Marine, Coach, a great person and friend.
Friends know him as a true Gentlemen, a Man's man.
As a child of the Great Depression growing up on Bayou St. John across from City Park, Frank never imagined he would be blessed with a wonderful family and own a beautiful home on the water with his own dock. Dreams can come true!
Frank loved all sports, but especially baseball, and was rewarded with a Pittsburgh Pirates contract after graduating from Warren Easton High School.
Frank's baseball career was cut short during the Korean War when he earned the privilege of becoming a U.S. Marine.
Frank's love for his country was inspired by his Uncle Matthew Abraham (Sgt USA), and his Cousins Joseph, Albert, and Buddy Stengle who all served in WWII. He spent so much time with the Stengel's (Anita, Shirley and Dorothy), they were more like brothers and sisters than Cousins.
After the Korean War, with baseball in the rear-view mirror, Frank focused on career and family, completing his studies in the then Delgado Trade School as a Master Pressmen and working in the Printing Industry for more than 35 years.
He met his future wife Cecile Lonergan, at the only Dance either of them attended, and the rest as they say, was an amazing history.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Cecile Lonergan Abraham, his Father Francis T. Abraham, Jr., and Mother Lillian Schiderer Abraham.
He is survived by his son Alan Abraham, daughter Leslie Paternostro, Grandchildren: Leah Paternostro, Marc Abraham, Ryan Abraham, Andrew Abraham, Great-Grandchildren: Nolan Abraham, Ambrose Abraham, and Kaine Abraham.
Funeral Service was held at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell Louisiana, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Interred at Forest Lawn.
