MRS. M. B. FOSTER Beloved Resident of Nashville Dies at Age of 86. Mrs. Martha Bradford Foster, 86 years old, died at her home, 1212 McGavock street, Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock. Mrs. Foster was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian church, both in years and length of membership. She joined the church when she was twelve years of age, and remained an active member until her death. She was the daughter of Armistead and Mary Bradford, and was born October 10, 1829, at their home on one of the richest plantations In Mississippi. Her parents died when she was two years old and she was brought to Nashville to make her home with her aunt, Mrs. John Nichol. At the age of seventeen she was married to Robert C. Foster III, who was a captain in the United States army in the American-Mexican war and later served gallantly as a general in the Confederate army. She was a woman with a beautiful character and was distinguished for the remarkable sweetness and gentleness of her disposition. She had ten children: Ephraim, Armistead, Andrew, Henry, Evalina, Robert, Jane, Philip, Bessie and Edgar M. Foster. Only three survive their mother: Miss Evalina Foster, Robert C. and Edgar M. Foster business manager of the Banner. She leaves four grandchildren: Bessie and Lucy, daughters of Robert C. Foster; Evalina McCauley, daughter of the late Mrs. Jane Foster McCauley, and Stratton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Foster. She had a very large and prominent family connection, and numerous first cousins, to two of whom, Mrs. W. F. Foster and Mrs. R R Hightower. The funeral services will be held from the residence this morning at 11 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. James I. Vance, assisted by Dr. H. N. Du-Bose. Mrs Martha B Foster (Special to The News) Nashville. Jan 5— Mrs Martha Bradford Foster widow of Gen Robert C Foster and one of Nashville's most notable women died at her home here yesterday. Mrs Foster was the mother of Edgar M Foster business manager of the Nashville Banner and of Miss Evelina Foster and Robert C Foster. She was 86 years old and was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian church both in age and in the number of years in which she had belonged to that congregation. She joined when only 13 years of age. The funeral was conducted this morning with services at the residence at 11 o'clock conducted by Dr James L Vance and Rev H N Du Bose. Her parents were Armistead Blackwell Bradford and Mary Jane Hopkins.
