Lubbock Police Officers were called to the 700 block of East Ursuline Street on Friday, December 17, at 8:50 p.m. for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers were informed the victim, 4 year-old Cornelius Carrington, was transported to University Medical Center via private vehicle, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Lubbock - 4, departed this life on Friday, December 17, 2021. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 1 p.m. at House of Prayer. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Griffin Mortuary. Cornelius was born to Sherill Palmer and Dequante Jackson on October 15, 2017. Cornelius attended Rise Academy . He was loved by many. He was very enthusiastic about going to school to learn. He leaves to cherish his memory; his mother, Sherill Palmer (Roshaud Ward); his father, Dequante Jackson; two brothers, Tyron Taylor, Jr. and La'Keetrah Huey; his grandmothers, Tiffany (Tyrone) Quigley and Dee Bush; great-grandparents, Roosevelt (Wanda) Benson; a host of other relatives and friends.
