Lubbock Police Officers were called to the 700 block of East Ursuline Street on Friday, December 17, at 8:50 p.m. for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers were informed the victim, 4 year-old Cornelius Carrington, was transported to University Medical Center via private vehicle, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Griffin Mortuary. Cornelius was born to Sherill Palmer and Dequante Jackson on October 15, 2017. Cornelius attended Rise Academy . He was loved by many. He was very enthusiastic about going to school to learn. He leaves to cherish his memory; his mother, Sherill Palmer (Roshaud Ward); his father, Dequante Jackson; two brothers, Tyron Taylor, Jr. and La'Keetrah Huey; his grandmothers, Tiffany (Tyrone) Quigley and Dee Bush; great-grandparents, Roosevelt (Wanda) Benson; a host of other relatives and friends.
