Obituary for Orville Bellamy
This community was surprised and shocked last Sunday Nov 22, 1903 by the announcement of Orville Bellomy's death, which occurred that morning at 6:20 o'clock. He was taken ill with pneumonia on Sunday, just one week from the day of his death. Although the best of nursing and medical attention was given him, his constitution was unable to grapple with the disease, especially as his heart was also affected. Orville was employed as teacher in the Fall school district this winter. This was his third term of school and he had been very successful in that profession.

He was twenty-one years of age the 3d of October last and was a young man of exemplary habits and possessed a character above reproach. We can cite no better example of true Christianity, honorable manhood and perfect gentle manliness than he was. He and his widowed mother lived in Creighton for a number of years and were held in high esteem by the entire community. They had been residents of Harrisonville the past four or five years.

At 2 pm Monday, the funeral was conducted by the Rev. Francis Bozeman at the Baptist church in Harrisonville of which Orville had long been a member. A large concourse of friends was in attendance. He was laid to rest in the West cemetery.

The deceased was a valued member of the young people societies of the church, and a teacher in the Sunday school. He had many sincere friends among his associates and none knew him but to respect and befriend him. One admirable and beautiful trait of his character was his true devotion to his mother, who has the heartfelt sympathy of everyone in this sad hour.

Note: 1900 census: Arthur Bellomy is listed as a servant in Pleasant Hill, Cass Co., near area where his mother was working also as a servant.
