William's most famous moment was most likely the fact that he translated from German and adapted the Vicki Baum play, Grand Hotel, for the stage and film, it won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1932.

William donated his body to science at University of Southern California. I called the department to confirm this, it is written on his death certificate. Once the Science center was finished with his body he was cremated and his ashes were spread in Inglewood Cemetery. His wife Ethel followed the same path and this practice is no longer allowed. There are no markers for either one of them.

Born in Dayton, Ohio William was multi-lingual. He became a journalist at a young age and soon moved to New York City where he was an editor for Vanity fair and held other prominent positions while pursuing a screen writing career.
