HOWARD HALDERSON
(1921 - 2007)

Howard R. Halderson, age 86, of 3400 Yorkshire Lane, Manitowoc, died Friday afternoon Dec. 14, 2007, surrounded by his family.

Howard was born on Nov. 18, 1921, in Valders, son of the late Albert and Alvina (Hanson) Halderson. He was a graduate of Valders High School with the class of 1940. Howard served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the battles of Midway, Saipan, and Tinian. He also served with the occupational forces in Nagasaki, Japan.

On Aug. 12, 1942, he married the former Shirley Espen in Valders. Howard worked for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation for 38 years, starting as a lineman and retiring as Electric Supervisor in the Two Rivers office. He was a member of the Men's Brotherhood and past council member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, and the Pigeon Lake Association. Howard enjoyed traveling, woodworking, helping friends and family, spending his summers at Pigeon Lake and his winters camping in Florida.

Survivors include his wife: Shirley, Manitowoc; two daughters and one son-in-law: Judith Ann Ammerman, Freeport, N.Y., Joan and Wayne Geraldson, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Jerome and Cecilia Halderson, Costa Rica; five grandchildren: Alisa (Keith) Stevenson, Baldwin, N.Y., Michael Ammerman, Mission Viejo, Calif., Veronica Halderson, Costa Rica, Heather Geraldson, Manitowoc, Sarah Geraldson, Manitowoc; one great-grandson: Jacob Keith Stevenson; former son-in-law: John Ammerman; half-brother: Vernon Waltz, Turlock, Calif.; three sisters-in-law: Luella (Alfson) Espen, West Bend, Doris (Pabian) Espen, West Bend, Jeanette (Mole) Halderson, Neillsville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Howard was preceded in death by four brothers: Morton, Oscar, Alfred and Arthur Halderson; four sisters: Sophie Skattebo, Loraine Krueger, Olga Hoyer, Georgiana Deckert; and stepfather: Burr Waltz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Richard Runge with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth, where graveside military rites will be accorded by the VFW Otto OAS Post No. 659.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the church.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Lynn Baatz, Richard Milewicz RPA-C, Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, the Cancer Care Center and to Holy Family Hospice for the compassion and care given to Howard and his family.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
