Ruth W Ridlen was born the daughter of Timothy Tibbetts Ridlen & Sarah Wright.

In about 1849, when land began opening up in the west, the family moved to Marion County, Iowa. Here she was united in marriage to Joshua Way on May 23, 1855. To this union, 7 known children were born: Seth Way, Charles Owen Way, Walter Solonas Way, William Joshua Way, Horace Parker Way, Sarah Way, and Mary Way. She was also mother to his children by a previous marriage, Asbury Way, Emily Way, Taylor Way, Anna Catharine Way, and Lydie Way.

She was a small framed, mighty, and an astute businesswoman. After Joshua's death, she managed her land and money well. Her sons told that, although she made many loans, all were repaid.

Following Joshua's death, she lived on in the house they built on one of their farms, near the northwest edge of Bussey, after they retired from the original farm located in Mahaska County.

A couple of years after Joshua's death, Ruth again married. She was united in marriage to William Lowman on October 28, 1897, Marion County, Iowa.

She died at the age of 75y, 7m, 26d, and is buried beside her first husband.
