Mrs. Phyllis Shepherd age 92, of Mt.Vernon passed away on Saturday January 1, 2022 at her home after a long illness. She was born on December 26, 1929 in Rockcastle County the daughter of the late Dewey and Virgie McCracken Ballinger. She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, caring for her family, and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are: her husband of 60 years; Charles Shepherd of Mt.Vernon. One son; Rodney Shepherd and (Tracy) of Gainsville, GA. One daughter; Mrs. Amy Mink and (Perry) of Mt.Vernon. One grandchild; Conor Richard Shepherd also survives. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by: four brothers; George, Edward, Raymond "Jug Head", and Donald Ballinger, and by four sisters; Edith Abney, Etta Ann Mullins, Lucille Kirby, and Cleda Shepherd.

Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Shepherd will be conducted 2 PM Wednesday January 5, 2022 at the Cox Funeral Home with Bro. Luther Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Cox Funeral Home where friends may visit from 12 Noon until time of service on Wednesday.
