Cleveland Resident Melvin Bedwell passed Saturday 24 Oct. 1998 at the age of 59. He was a former councilman for the City of Cleveland.

Preceding him in death were his parents Walter and Catherine Bedwell.

He was survived by his wife of 40 years Sylvia Cornelison Bedwell, two daughters, three grandchildren, a son-in-law, brother James R Hurst, and sister Peggy H. Johnson.

He was very active in community organizations and was the current leading knight of the BPOE Lodge, the first president of the Bradley County Heart Association, founder of Kids on the Block and past president of the Cleveland Noonday Lions Club. Some of his other club memberships, which are too numerous to list include the Chamber of Commerce where he served on the executive board, the Bradley Healthcare Foundation, Cleveland Running Club, United Way, Keep America Beautiful and the Parish council for St. Therese Catholic Church.

He received several awards over the years including the District Lion of the year, the Melvin Jones Award and the Small Business Award for 1997.

Memorials may be sent to the St. Therese Catholic Church building fund.
