J.J. ADAMS DIES AT HOME IN ASHEVILLE
-----
Former Business Man of Charlotte and Active Chruch Worker Claimed After Eight Years' Illness.

Death claimed Mr. John J. Adams, a Charlotte resident up to eight years ago when his health failed, at his home on Montford avenue, Asheville, yesterday morning about 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Adams died alone, a faithful servant finding his lifeless body on going to the house for the day. For eight years, Mr. Adams suffered from the disease which finally was the cause of his dath, and his sufferings were said to have been acute during the last year of his life.

The deceased was well known in Charlotte business circles. He was president of the Adams Grain & Provision Co. of this city, and directed the important affairs of the business by telephone from his bed when he was not able to go to his Asheville office in good weather. He was a ruling elder in the Second Presbyterian Church here, and was well known as a devout and charitable citizen.

He joined the Presbyterian Church during the great Pearson meeting here in 1877, and for years was a ruling elder, as stated. His influence for good was far reaching, and he was beloved by all who came in contact with him.

Mr. Adams' first business connection in Charlotte was with Young & Co., an enterprise dealing in provisions and foodstuffs. Later he was associated with Cochrane & Barnhardt, and shortly afterwards organized the Admas Grain & Provision Co. When the "the" was dropped from the title of the firm one year later, mr. Adams became president of Adams Grain & Provision Co. He conducted this business until 10 years ago, when failing health compelled him to relinquish his active connection with the company here. He then moved to Asheville. He organized a company in Asheville similar to that of which he had been president here and its operation was attended with success.

He lived alone in his home on Montford avenue, and was attended by a faithful servant. She said he was composed in expression when she found him yesterday morning, as if death had come on him easily.

The remains reached Charlotte last night at 10 o'clock. Funeral services will be held at the Second Presbyterian Church this morning at 10 o'clock, and interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Elders of the Church will act as pallbearers.
