Virgie is the oldest child of Raymond Lee and Emma Lucille (Nelson) Crawford. She had younger twin sisters, Jo Ann (Crawford) Fox (my Mom) and Betty Ann (Crawford) Nickell.

Virgie grew up in Iowa, Washington, and Missouri. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her father died when she was only 16. She was married briefly as a young woman to James Mason. After their divorce, she remained single the rest of her life. She lived with her mother Lucille until "Mom" died in 1981, then stayed on at the small family farm in Platte Co MO until fire destroyed the house. Virgie then sold the acreage and moved to an apartment in Gladstone MO where she lived until her death.

She was a long-time employee of Whitaker Cable and Henry Wurst, both of NKC MO, retiring only a few short years before her death.

She was an avid bowler, loved the KC Chiefs, and lived to party with her coworkers and bowling buddies.

Family called her "Sug" or "Sugar". The nickname came from her toddler days. When nobody was watching, she'd climb up on the kitchen table and eat straight out of the sugar bowl. Everybody wondered where all the sugar was going until they finally caught her!
