Drue Burton, 69, a longtime farmer of Direct on Rt. 2, Sumner, died Thursday July 27, 1967 at 5:45 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Nursing Home, Paris. He had been in ailing health 10 years. The funeral, Saturday July 29 at 2:30 p.m., will be held at Direct Church of Christ where he was a member, Lowell Brown, a Missouri evangelist, to officiate. Burial will be made in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Chicota. Relatives are receiving friends between 7:30 and 9 p.m at Paris at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris. Son of Drue Burton Sr. and the former Martha Emerson, Mr. Burton was born at Ashland, LA, May 22, 1898, and had lived in the Direct-Garretts Bluff area 60 years, having attended the old Davis school. He was unmarried, the most immediate survivors being a brother, Clinton Burton, Direct, and Mrs. J.A. Hill, Texarkana.Drue never married, but fathered 2 daughters, Ara Mae & Glenda, with Flora Lee Whitaker.
