William K. Taylor, born August 4, 1925, in Union City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2007. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the light aircraft carrier CVL-23 USS Princeton, during World War II, and was personally involved in 9 major naval engagements fought with the Japanese Navy in the Pacific between 1943 - 1944. He was topside on the flight deck as a 'plane captain', when his ship was attacked and bombed during the Battle for Leyte Gulf, in which the carrier was lost, October 24, 1944. Bill stayed on in the US Navy after the war, serving in the reserves, from which he was honorably retired as a Chief Petty Officer. After the war, he made his home in El Paso, Texas, where he married and raised his family.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Sue Miser Taylor. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Susan Inmon, Linda Dueer, and Katie Montelonao, and his son, William Taylor. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Taylor Grimme of Orlando, Florida; 2 nephews, William D. Simmons of Blytheville, Arkansas, B. Gary Grimme of Middleburg, Florida, and 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 4 great grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Harding-Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Thursday, September 13, 2007, at 11:30 A.M. at Fort Bliss National Military Cemetary, with full military honors.
