Michael Stanton "Doc" Everhart served his nation honorably and proudly both on active duty and as a reservist for thirty-one years. He started his military career as a subsurface sailor diving deep under the sea on a submarine. He earned and proudly wore his "silver dolphins." Following that portion of his career, he saw the light and transitioned to duty as an aviation Search and Rescue Corpsman. Mike went for it all in and earned his "aircrew wings of gold" while serving with Marines. Mike's passion was serving others. During his aircrew time, he decided there was another challenge he needed to accomplish, Mike wanted to become a Physician's Assistant. He departed active military duty and entered the Bowman Gray School of Medicine Physician Assistant's (PA) program. Mike completed that program and the testing requirements for Board Certification as a PA. He worked at numerous locations as a PA for over twenty – six years within the private sector. His final PA career assignment prior to his retirement was with the Veteran's Administration. Just after completing PA School Mike met Fonda, together they had their wonderful son, Paul. Paul was Mike's joy and he was totally dedicated and committed as a father. While in PA school, Mike entered into the Naval Reserve and began actively drilling with both Navy and United States Marine Corps units. When our nation came under attack by terrorists in 2001, Mike readily answered the call, Corpsman Up! On four separate and distinct occasions, Mike deployed in support of United States Marine Corps forces to Iraq. Mike is a father, brother, cousin, uncle, relative, and friend unlike any other. We will all remember his greatness and carry love for him within our hearts! Semper Fidelis "Devil Dog Doc" Everhart. The United States Marine Corps has never had a better Navy Chief in their ranks! The family has determined to best honor and remember Mike, please consider donating to the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program or to the American Cancer Society.
