Dorothy Nell McNatt Ackles of Greenville slipped quietly into the open arms of the Lord October 20, 2014, in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.

Born in Greenville, Hunt County, Texas, October 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Floyd McNatt and Lillian Moore McNatt.

She was a member of Gussie Nell Davis' original Flaming Flashes drill team while in high school and later attended East Texas State Teachers College.

She met Gene Spaulding Ackles of Charleston, West Virginia, at the USO during World War II while stationed at Majors Field, and they were married October 14, 1944, before he left for his tour of duty with the Eighth Air Force.

She was a longtime employee of First Greenville National Bank and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church before moving to Garland, where she became a member of Woodcreek Church in Richardson.

"Gran" as her family called her, will be remembered as a devoted Christian woman who loved her family, her friends, her Bible, her hymns and her country. An exemplary wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she was a prayer warrior for all of us through the years. She was just as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. "Thanks, Mom, for your example, your patience and for so many sweet memories. You will live in our hearts forever."

She was preceded in death by not only her parents, but also her husband.

Surviving are two sons; two grandsons; one granddaughter; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and extended families in Atlanta, Georgia, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. - noon at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Memoryland Memorial Park with Dr. Bill Brewer and Dr. Mark Engelthaler officiating.
