Swedish singer. He was a bass baritone and also known as Carl E. Olivebring. His mother was Judit Andersson, who worked for the Swedish royal court, and he is generally identified as an extramarital son of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. He grew up in a foster family which was devoutly religious and his singing was all within such a genre. His half-brother Prince Sigvard Bernadotte, legitimate son of King Gustav Adolf, and wife Princess Marianne Bernadotte met several times with him and celebrated him on his 70th birthday. He and his wife were also invited for visits the Bernadotte couple's Stockholm home. According to the Church of Sweden birth register in his native parish, his father was a homeowner named Lars Ersson, but Gustaf Adolf's biographer Kjell Fridh discounted that. He had an early job in Stockholm working for the Swedish Railway, government-owned SJ, and sang in his spare time with the Philadelphians. He trained his voice at the Stockholm Opera. Moving to the United States in 1945, he initially had some success as a banker, before he went all in for singing and became a prominent and popular church singer, on a few occasions standing in for Billy Graham's soloist Beverly Shea. He appeared on several radio and television channels in the United States and at Christian conferences around North America. With Einar Ekberg he also worked in a well-known duet act. Back in Sweden, he made a substantial number of records while touring from north to south for the Pentecostal movement. He was twice married and had two daughters.
