Franklin Strain
June 23, 1933 — Dec. 14, 2007

Eugene Strain, 74, of Albany died Friday at his home.

He was born in Ekalaka, Mont., the son of Andrew Denton and Beulah Strain. He grew up in Idaho, where he attended Roberts High School. As a youth, Eugene was greatly influenced by his Uncle Einer, who taught him the value of hard work and honesty. These values together with his belief in God became the foundation of his life.

In 1950, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict, along with his brother, Denny, who gave his life for his country. Eugene was a patriotic man who was proud to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Eugene married his high school sweetheart, Betty, on May 29, 1952, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were happily married for 55 years and joyfully reared four daughters.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a man of deep faith and integrity, his greatest passion was the care and well being of his family and friends.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking. Eugene and Betty spent the last eight years traveling the country in their RV. Their goal was to visit every state in the continental United States, and they made it to 26 states. Due to illness, they recently moved to Albany to be near family.

Eugene is survived by his wife and best friend, Betty; daughters Janine, and Tamara and husband Steven; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Carla and husband Bill; and Auntie Alice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Desiree and Teresa, and brother Denny.

A funeral service will be Friday at Fisher Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery.
