Dr. William Addison Phillips, Jr. was born in Salina, Kansas where he attended schooling there until graduation from the Salina School System. Upon the age of manhood he became a certified Medical Physician & Surgeon in multiple hospital venues across the Midwestern and Los Angeles, CA area. He married Rebecca Margaret 'Reba' Coburn on November 15th, 1883 in Salina, Kansas . Matrimonial ceremony was performed by Reverend W.A Simkins.
Mr. Phillips graduated from the Ann Arbor Medical College of Michigan & the University of Michigan where he practiced his profession in his hometown of Salina, Saline Co., KS, as well as in Kay County, Oklahoma, and finally in his last home of Cookville,Pulaski Co., Missouri where he was buried.
Dr. William Addison Phillips, Jr bore the namesake of his father, who was the famous Kansas Pioneer and Free-State Abolitionist w/ John Brown during the days of "Bleeding Kansas" , prior to the outbreak of the deadly & tragic scar in American history of the
Civil War.
Dr. W.A. Phillips father, the prolific hero of pioneer-era Kansas Col. William Addison Phillips, Sr., was the primary founder of the Salina Town Company. With the help of 4 others they helped to organize the town of Salina, Kansas as well as the entire Saline County beginning in March of 1858. His father was initially commissioned as a Major in Company K of the 5th Kansas Militia before being promoted to the rank of Colonel and commanded the 3rd Indian Home Guard. Upon retirement, the Colonel became a Kansas state representative in Congress and was later the attorney/advisory for the entire Cherokee Nation of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Needless to say Dr. William A. Phillips, Jr. had some big shoes to fill. Surviving include ex-wife Rebecca Coburn.and 4 daughters Margaret, Ruth, Margie, and Dorothy Coburn Phillips. Also, a brother Capt. James Spilman Phillips (US Navy Paymaster Dept.) & a sister Ruth (Phillips) Rauch of Texas.

Unfortunately Cookville, Missouri is an extinct town now and records are taking awhile to find the exact location or if it exists anymore.
