Evelyn May Shafer was born in Wichita, Kansas, on March 31, 1951, to parents Della and Melvin Shafer. Evelyn is survived by husband Stephen Lucas, daughter Jennifer Lucas, daughter Adria Harris, daughter-in-law Johnnie Lynn Lucas, mother Della Shafer, brother Clifton Shafer, sister Melissa Robb (Jeff), sisters-in-law Cathy Holm (Robert) and Susan Goss (Mark), grandchildren Leah Payne, Jessica Ladd, Payton Lucas, Alex Manner, and Phoebe Manner, one great grandchild Hayden Tuck, and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She is preceded in death by her son Aaron Lucas, father Melvin Shafer, mother-in-law Donna Lucas, father-in-law Dale Lucas, along with loving grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Evelyn retired from Independent Purchasing Cooperative, located in Miami, FL, in 2019, as a data analyst. She earned her Associate's Degree in Computer Science and taught classes for various software applications. Evelyn was an accomplished pianist, artist, and poet. She loved music, movies, literature, road trips, her Christian faith, and she was devoted to her family. She enthusiastically served as a 22-year Army wife, and made so many friends in locations across the U.S. and overseas.
Services will be held at Derby Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, December 30, at 11 a.m.
