Mrs. Ann Lehfeldt, 48, who was first author for Peachtree Publishers

Mrs. Ann Ashford Lehfeldt of Atlanta, whose book "If I Found A Wistful Unicorn" launched Peachtree Publishers, died o cancer Monday at Georgia Baptist Medical Center. She was 48.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Central Presbyterian Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Lehfeldt's 1978 work is an "illustrated love poem," according to a family member. It was the first book to be issued by Peachtree Publishers of Atlanta and later won a juvenile literature award from the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists.

The book still is in print after 13 editions and is used by psychiatrists, counselors and clergy in their work with clients, according to a family member.

Mrs. Lehfeldt also was vice president and secretary of a family-owned fund-raising consulting firm.

Mrs. Lehfeldt was born August 27, 1939, in Hannibal, Mo., the only child of C. Alexander Ashford, a lumber salesman and Mrs. Eugenia Murphy Ashford. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1961. Later she was a United Methodist church worker among teenagers in Texas, and a welfare case worker in Atlanta.

She was an actress and director of Central Drama Troupe; a former member of the board of directors of Horizon Theatre Company; a member of the Author's Guild; and a ruling elder and newsletter editor of Central Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Martin C. Lehfeldt; a stepson, Conrad P. Lehfeldt of Atlanta, and a stepdaughter, Miss Elizabeth Lehfeldt of Atlanta.
