He was raised on his parents' Four Hills ranch in Albuquerque with his two sisters, Peggy Ann and Virginia Ruth, where he enjoyed horseback riding, calf roping, and rodeo activities.
After graduating from Albuquerque's Highland High School in 1958, Al attended UNM, received a Junior Accounting degree from Draughon's Business College in Albuquerque, and attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA.
Al worked as a professional photographer, owned donut shops, a Mexican restaurant, and barbecue restaurants where he became known in the East Mountains as "The Barbecue Man."
Al had a passion for music, telling stories, photography, and especially his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Al is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy; his children, Bruce, Shellie (Mark) Peercy, and Dawn; grandchildren: Stephen, Justin, Nathan, Brendan, and Aaron; great-granddaughter, Shayla; his sisters, Peggy (Jim) Schwebach, Virginia Rawlojohn, and step-children, Larry and Lani Hendrix.
