Carl Fred Gooden, age 88, completed his earthly journey on January 26, 2022. This journey began on July 6, 1933 in Soddy Daisy, when he was born to Rev. Ed C Gooden and Lena (Weese) Gooden who preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Betty (Weeks), daughter, Carlene (Lyle Quarles), granddaughter, Ashlea (Justin) Rumer, 2 great -granddaughters, Rilee and Addison Rumer, and special nephew, Rick (Donna) Grant. Additionally, he is survived by his sister Phyllis (Ray) Upton, and brothers, Bonnie, Darwin (Charlotte), and Le Van (EJ) Gooden and their families. He was preceded in death by brothers, Sherril, E.C., Frank, Clauson, Joe and Clay Gooden, and sisters, Alma Dodd Sneed and Iris Dean.

After graduating from Soddy Daisy High School, he began his career at Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga where he was a supervisor and retired in 1996. Along the career path, he took a couple of side roads, attending Kirkman Vocational school where he became a carpenter and briefly taught later in his life and became an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Carl was a hard worker with a marvelous memory and sense of humor, and his favorite hobby was magic. For many years after retiring, he was a working magician who volunteered his magical entertainment at area nursing homes. At the end, he was still entertaining hospital staff with jokes. He was blessed with a strong faith in God and family and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Soddy-Daisy. The lessons he taught and the unyielding passion he showed for those he cared for will forever live on in those he touched.

The Gooden family will receive friends on Saturday, January 29th from 12-1 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 1:00 pm. A graveside committal service will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Monday, January 31st at 12:00 pm.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
