GRANDFATHER : Colonel John Waring, ( 1724 - 1770 ). Speaker of the Delaware Assembly. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the lower counties of Delaware.

FATHER : Senator John Middleton Vining, ( 1758 - 1802 ), U. S. Congressman and U. S. Senator from Delaware. elected to represent Delaware as At-Large Representative in the United States House, serving from 1789 to 1793. Also served as a Member of the Delaware State legislature, delegate to the Continental congress from Delaware, and United States senator from Delaware from 1793 to 1798.

MOTHER : Anna Maria Seaton, ( ----- 1800 ) daughter of Willam Seaton of New York. Sister of William Magee Seton, the husband of Saint Elizabeth ( Bailey ) Seton.

AUNT : Elizabeth Ann ( Bailey ) Seton, ( 1774 - 1821 ), Roman Catholic Religious Leader. Canonized in 1975 by Pope Paul VI, she was the first native born United States citizen to be made a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church. married to prosperous merchant William Seton, who died of tuberculosis. Had five children. Converted to the Catholic Church after his death, and started a school for girls, forming a religious community called the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph.

BROTHER : William Henry Vining, ( 1795 - 1822 ) Achieved distinction in the practice of the law, but his career was cut short by a untimely death.
