On August 21, 1967, an A-6A Intruder (bureau number 152627, call sign "Milestone 402") launched in a flight of four from the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CVA 4) on a strike mission outside Hanoi, North Vietnam. During egress from the target area, this Intruder was attacked by enemy aircraft. "Milestone 402" went missing during the resulting aerial combat and did not return to the ship, though exact circumstances surrounding its loss are unknown.
LT Scott was lost with the aircraft. His remains were not recovered and further attempts to locate them have been unsuccessful.
Lt Scott was the son of Dale and Eleanor Vanderlin Scott. He had a wife An Marie and two children, Gloria and David.
