Mrs. M. Deckard Killed in Crash; Services Today

Mrs. Margaret McBride Deckard, 28, of 148 Patton St., wife of Max L. Deckard, was killed when the automobile she was driving collided with another vehicle about two miles north, of LeBeau in St. Landry Parish Saturday afternoon. Time of the accident was placed at 4:10 p.m.

The driver of the other car, L. B. Ewell, a Negro, was jailed in Opelousas and charged with negligent homicide. Two other Negro passengers in the Ewell car were hurt. Mrs. Deckard was alone.

Mrs. Deckard was a native and lifelong resident of Shreveport, and was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church. She was a Centenary graduate, and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Stuart Christopher Deckard; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Homer McBride of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Robert D. Watts of Baton Rouge; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Charles W. Burchett of Shreveport and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. S. D. McBride of Jonesboro.

Services were to be held at Rose-Neath Chapel at 10 a.m. today with the Rev. Meade Brown, pastor of St. Paul Episcopal Church officiating. Burial was to be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were to be Fred Deckard, Richard Deckard, Paul Hodge, Bob Lindsay, Bob Watts and Mickey Ousler.
