James Douglas Baker was from the Los Angeles area. He enlisted in the US Marines 03-OCT-1917 and performed quite well there. He was selected to remain in the US to train recruits for WWI, and rose from Private to Corporal in April 1918 to 2nd Lieutenant in Dec 1918. He was demobilized in Jun 1919 with many others after the war.

He married Alice Claire Brown in Jan 1920, and had two sons - Philip and Kenneth. Mrs Brown died under tragic circumstances in 1928 and the children appear to have been sent to live State Housing, and ultimately (probably) lived with their Uncle. Both children later led quite important and productive lives.

James Baker was admitted to the VA hospital in 1932 with a version of TB. The circumstances of his death are not known at this time, and he passed in May 1972.
