Footballer and War Hero. He played for Rangers F.C. 240 times, winning 3 league titles, 3 Glasgow Cups and 3 Charity Cups. He also played 36 times for Everton F.C. where he captained them to The First Division Title. After that season however, football was suspended due to the outbreak of The First World War. During the war he served with The Army Service Corp and latterly with The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders where he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant. In 1917 he was wounded and suffered severe shell shock which meant he returned home to recuperate and as a result he never returned to play football in any meaningful way.
