Kay was born on January 24, 1937 in Rivesville, West Virginia, to Guy and Beaulah Haught. After her family moved to Illinois, she graduated from Mills Prairie Community High School where she met her lifelong friends, Thelma Jo and Barbara. While studying for her teaching degree at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, she met Lowell Harris and they married in 1956. After Lowell received his civil engineering degree and accepted a job with the state of California, they moved to Eureka where Kay received her elementary education degree at Humboldt State College in June 1961.
Kay followed her husband around the world as he served in the US military, overcoming many obstacles while teaching and caring for her three daughters. She was a kind, patient, and caring teacher and mother. She truly blossomed as a wonderful grandmother. She always put her family first and we will miss her so much.
Kay was preceded in death by two daughters, Julia and Jill Ann, who passed away shortly after birth (We imagine she is holding them right now); her husband, Lowell Harris; her brothers, Guy, Rex and Joe Haught; and sister, Doris Tuttle.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura, Sharon and Sonya; sister, Marilyn Haught; brother David Haught; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made with Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service and a private family service will be held at later date.
