Walter E. Ashe, 83, a clothing salesman, died Wednesday in Fort worth.

Mr. Ashe was born March 5, 1912, in Sherman, Miss.

Walter Epting Ashe came to Fort Worth in 1930 to attend Texas Christian University. Upon his arrival, however, his brother John needed him in his family business. Walter began his career with John L. Ashe Clothiers. The career lasted from 1930 to 1984.

Walter was in sales his entire career. He added the responsibility of the business manager in 1963 upon the death of his brother Ernest Ashe.

Walter served his country during World War II. He went through the Officer Training Corps and was sent to Europe. He rose to the rank of first lieutenant. An Army supply officer, Walter earned the Bronze Star for Valor, while moving supplies through enemy territory during the Battle of the Bulge.

He returned to Fort Worth to continue his career with John L. Ashe Clothiers.

In 1983, Walter married Fae Lowry.

Walter was active in the Masonic order for 50 years. He was a charter member of Ridglea Country Club. He was on the administrative board of First United Methodist Church. He and his wife were active in the Twosome Class at the church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Scruggs, and Lavada Gower, and two brothers, Robert Ashe, and Ernest G. Ashe.
