Born April 8, 1915, in Antreville, SC, he was the son of the late Levi Edward Gable, Sr. and Jeanette (Latham) Gable.
A graduate of Erskine College, B.A. degree, the University of South Carolina, M.A. degree, and Peabody College, he was a retired Superintendent in Spartanburg School District Six after 42 years of service in education.
He was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and former chairman of the Board. He was a Mason and Past Master of Roebuck Masonic Lodge #357, one of the originators of the Roebuck Improvement Association, former President of the S.C. School Business Association, and a former member of the SCEA, NEA, and S.C. School Administrators Association. Mr. Gable led School District Six in becoming the second School District in the State to form the middle school concept.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Wise Alman Gable; two sons, Larry Alman Gable and his wife Rhonda, and Harry Latham Gable and his wife Ann, both of Spartanburg; two granddaughters, Kylie M. Gable and Beth Foster, both of Spartanburg; and four grandsons, Levi F. Gable of Columbia, Brikton McCutcheon, Phillip Key, and Chip Key, all of Spartanburg.
Visitation was 1:30-2:45 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2007, at Roebuck Baptist Church. Funeral services followed at 3:00 p.m. at the Church conducted by Dr. Tim Williams. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to the Dorman All Sports Booster Club, PO Box 9, Roebuck, SC 29376.
