December 23, 1923 - January 28, 2022
Auberry, California - Ray Kemper passed away ten years after his beloved wife of 67 years, Novice. Left behind are daughters Tanda Ainsworth and Ann Kemper, grandchildren Carmen Mootz, John Mootz, Kati Ward, Rebecca Roos, Rochelle Crews, Ben, David, and Aaron Estes, and many great-grandchildren.
Ray started work at age 16 at KHJ. During service in WWII, he met and married Novice Reynolds. Theirs was a storied wartime romance. Ray worked for 40 years at CBS, creating soundscapes and scripts for radio shows like Gunsmoke and Straight Arrow and, later, at CBS-TV he mixed sound for Red Skelton, Glen Campbell, Norman Lear, Carol Burnett, the Smothers Brothers and many others. In 1967, he received an Emmy nomination for sound engineering on TV musical Brigadoon.
Ray retired in 1980 and the couple moved to the Sierra foothills. Services were private. Please send condolences to Kemper Family, 34469 Old Mill Road, Auberry, CA 93602.
