John worked variously as a bookbinder, produce dealer, and Coachman. He married Catharine Freethy at Boston on Nov. 11, 1838. They were parents to four children, including Maria, born ca. 1840; Charles H., born ca. 1842; George, born May 1863; and Walter, born ca. 1848.
John was residing at 13 South Russell St. (now defunct) in Boston's West End when he died of Apoplexy. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery.
