George Washington Engle was the son of James and Ruth (Cutright) Engle. He married Mary Susan Rankin on September 20, 1866 and they had the following children:
Lydia Belle, Margaret Alice, Myrtie Jane, Minnie May, James Edward. He was a Civil War soldier in the 5th W. VA. VOL. INF. Co. E and later the 1st W. VA.Veteran VOL. INF. CO E. He was disabled and ultimately died due to disease incurred during his military service leaving his widow to rear their children alone. His widow, Mary Susan went Cincinnati, Ohio to obtain employment in a Children's Home and died there on October 5, 1886.
