Annie was the daughter of Richard Allen and Bertha Bowles, the 2nd of 3 daughters. She was educated in the Montgomery County School System. At age 16, she relocated to Milledgeville, Georgia in search of employment opportunities. She was employed with the Baldwin County Board of Education as a Dietician for over 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of Flagg Chapel Baptist Church in Milledgeville, Georgia. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was married to George Edward Simmons Sr in November 1952, they had 5 girls and 5 boys. She was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Antonio Simmons.

5 Daughters: Belinda Simmons Hill(Lorenzo), Carolyn Simmons Clayborne(Todd), Annie "Benita" Simmons Flournoy(Greg), Bertha "Rena" Simmons and Katrina Simmons(Sharon).
5 Sons: George "Edward" Simmons Jr(Brenda), Barry Simmons(Sandra), Willie Alvin Simmons, Vincent Simmons(Yvonne) and Ronnie Simmons(Josie).
