George was born in Sandy Lake Township, Mercer County on March 1, 1928, to Henry and Mary (McAnallen) Patterson.
George grew up in Stoneboro and at the age of seventeen he enlisted in the US Navy and served at Pearl Harbor where he worked in communications.
After serving in the military, he met and married his wife Irene Jane Kelly of nearly 71 years on March 16, 1951.
George retired from Cooper Energy Services where he was employed for 40 years, and he was an auctioneer in the area for more than 40 years.
George was a member of the North Main Street Church of God, Butler. He loved the church and served the church in various capacities. He was a greeter, usher, and served on the board of directors.
George was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed fishing in Erie with his son and grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, a daughter, Cathy Fritz and husband Richard, Grove City, a son, Jeff Patterson and wife Joan, Hagerstown, MD, 3 grandsons, Chris (Kathleen) Chambers, Craig (Crystal) Chambers, and Greg (Jess) Patterson, and 10 great grandchildren. His parents, a sister, Betty Snyder, and a brother, Walter "Pat" Patterson, preceded George in death.
