Joyce was the eldest of two daughters of Rhea and Max Indig. She made her professional singing debut on The Art Ford Show, on WPIX, channel 11 in NY, May 28, 1949. Later that year, newspapers hinted that she may have been seeing Franchot Tone, a producer and director of stage and TV, and former leading man in movies. Joyce was billed as a specialist in torch songs and ballads, performing the club circuit in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Montreal. Her performance of "Wish Me Luck" (1949) on Skitch Henderson's WNBC radio show was widely praised. She caught the eye of a young comic, known as Jack Roy in those days, later known as Rodney Dangerfield. They married in Manhattan, on October 3, 1951. Their first child, a boy, was born in 1960. The two divorced in 1961. They stayed close however, and reconciled in 1963 and remarried. Their second child, a daughter, was born soon after. Joyce suffered with debilitating arthritis in her later years and her husband made efforts to remain close to help raise the children, opening his own comedy club in New York City, "Dangerfield's" in 1969. They divorced again in 1970. A People Magazine article from July 1986 said that Joyce passed away nine years prior.
