From the book, The Fighting Men of Oklahoma: PVT Self, USMCR, was inducted into the service at Oklahoma City on May 18, 1944 and received his training at San Diego CA. He was attached to the sea going unit Flag Ship, later was attached to Admiral Davis' staff and then to Admiral Fort's staff, where he remained transporting supplies and men to other bases until he received his discharge on Sept. 29, 1945.
