Miriam Maxine Dye, 90, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Mulberry Health. She was born near Dayton, IN on August 21, 1931, daughter of the late James Frederic Loft and Dorotha Olive (Hoshaw) Loft.

After graduating from Dayton High School in 1949, Miriam worked as a nurse at the Ross Sanitorium in Lafayette. It was there that she met and nursed James B. Dye back to health after returning from war. Jim immediately took a liking to Miriam and her kind heart so he told her he was going to marry her one day. Miriam quickly objected and made sure he knew she was not going to marry him. Lo and behold, on February 4, 1952, she married Jim in Lafayette, IN. These sweethearts are now joyously reunited in heaven, which is something Miriam has longed for over thirty years.

It was common for Miriam to drop what she was doing if someone needed help. She was a doer and had a gift for knowing what needed to be done to help serve someone else. She frequently prepared and delivered meals and baked goods for others, as she was always thinking of ways to serve those around her and loved making sure everyone was fed and comforted. Miriam's kind heart, unwavering work ethic and compassion were second to none, which made her most beloved to all that knew her.

Miriam was also a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and thoroughly enjoyed serving others as Relief Society President in various congregations and locations, but she was always so fond of teaching the children as a primary teacher and primary president. One of her most tender qualities was how she would always give her undivided attention to small children and they instantly loved her for that, especially her grandchildren who she absolutely adored.

Miriam has left a lasting legacy of love—to take every opportunity to love others in any way possible, whether it be through a hot meal or their favorite dessert, mailing a card and hand written letter with stickers on the envelope and i's dotted with hearts, wrapping someone in a big hug with a blanket she made them that was fresh out of the dryer, buying something for a loved one just because it made her think of them, being ready to crack a joke or laugh at a joke someone makes, visiting someone out of the blue with their favorite flowers to ensure they aren't forgotten, making sure all kids at a birthday party have something to unwrap so they don't feel left out, or just sitting down to talk with a big cup of cocoa and a freshly baked cookie. For Miriam, let's take any opportunity to show some extra love for someone today.

Surviving are one son; two sisters; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by six brothers - Ralph, Paul, Gerald, Raymond, Donald and James Loft; four sisters - Elizabeth Carlson, Dorothy Brown, Betty Clift and Mary Watts; three children - Betsy Jane Dye, Stephen Dye and Cynthia Marie Nesmith; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Dye.

Visitation will be at 10 AM and services at 12 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3430 E 450 S, Lafayette, IN 47909. Burial will follow at Fairhaven Cemetery in Mulberry, IN.
