Carolia was born on April 3, 1948 to Harvey and Marie Bass in Amherst, TX.  Soon after, they moved to Muleshoe, TX where she grew up and joined the Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church at the age of eight.  After graduating from Muleshoe High School in 1966, where she was an honor student and played flute in the band, she went on to obtain her degree in Clothing and Textiles from the School of Home Economics at Texas Tech University.  During her freshman year at Texas Tech, she met her forever sweetheart, Ronald Johnson, at the Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church.

Carolia and Ron were married on May 23, 1970 at the Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church.  They set up their first home in Dallas, TX where she was a teacher for a short period.  In 1972 they moved to Winter Park, FL and had two children, Julia Marie and Eric Michael.  They lived in Winter Park and Longwood, FL for 23 years.  Carolia was a member of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Winter Garden, FL and Little Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Davenport, FL.  During these years Carolia was a professional volunteer at her children's schools.

In 1996 Carolia and Ron moved to Yorba Linda, CA where she joined the Little Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Bellflower, CA.  Carolia continued her volunteering with the Assistance League of Fullerton, CA and her daughter's elementary classroom.

After Ron's retirement, Carolia and Ron returned to Texas in 2009 settling in Aledo, TX where they joined the First Primitive Baptist Church in Dallas, TX.  At her home in Aledo, she cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmommie, and hostess.

During her married life, Carolia enjoyed the privilege of hosting many Primitive Baptist minsters and loved ones in her home for numerous church meetings and special occasions.  She was blessed with an extraordinary gift of hospitality, making everyone feel special and loved.  From 1972 until 2019 Carolia taught Primitive Baptist singing schools in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and California.  She has taught over four generations of families in the singing of shape notes, the application of congregational singing and leading, and their benefits to the Church.  She always emphasized the importance of a servant's heart and the words of the hymns as they aligned with Scripture.  Carolia brought joy to so many with her thoughtful ways of giving to others with just the right story, conversation, wisdom, or gift.  Her love for others was an example to all.
