Donald Allen "Sonny" Short Sr., 70, of North Vernon, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at his home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Jennings County, the son of Hubert and Ruth Frazier Short. He was owner and operator of Lurton's Store in Commiskey for the past 10 years. He was a former butcher, and owned and operated a moving business in Oxnard, Calif., for 10 years before moving back to North Vernon a number of years ago. He was a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Eva Gladys Lumos Short; two sons, William Short of Richmond, Ky., and Donald Allen Short Jr. of Santa Maria, Calif.; two daughters, Connie Short of North Carolina and Wanda Short, of Florida; two stepsons, Dax Rosales of Fort Drum, N.Y., and Max Rosales of North Vernon; two stepdaughters, Nancy Rosales of North Vernon and Jenny Rosales of Los Angeles; two brothers, Larry and Danny Short, both of Paris Crossing; four sisters, Thelma Hughes, Faye King, Donna Goldschmidt and Roberta Pettigrew, all of North Vernon; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Short; and one sister, Shirley Elaine Short.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, with burial in Tea Creek Cemetery in Lovett.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Kidney Association or the American Heart Association.
