Max Adalbert, whose real name was actually Maximilian Adalbert Krampf, was a German stage and film actor, who played in over 40 movies, mostly comedies, between 1915 and 1933. He also worked in cabaret. Born in 1874 in Danzig he came from an old military family, but knew early that he was going to be on stage rather then on the battle field. As a 19-year-old he got his first engagement in Lübeck (1894). 5 years later he came to Berlin and played at the Residenz Theatre. More and more he became popular in his comedic roles. In 1924 he co-founded the Kabarett der Komiker (Cabaret of the Comedians) in Berlin. In 1931 he played the title role in Carl Zuckmeyer's "Der Hauptmann von Köpenick" about an unemployed impersonator, who was able to get the city's cash box by pretending to be someone he wasn't. This turned out to be Adalbert's prime role, which he played multiple times on different stages throughout his career. During an engagement in Bavaria he contracted pneumonia and died at the age of 57 in Munich. 11 days later he was buried in Stahnsdorf.
