When he was a student at Woodward High School, Francis enrolled in a Parliamentary Law class, which showed his early interest in the law. He eventually became a Court Reporter for Lucas County. Francis completed 5 years of instruction at the University of Toledo.
During World War II, Francis served his country in the US Navy aboard a submarine.
Francis was known for his intellect, his quick wit and his pranks often played upon his younger siblings. He never married.
Francis died on July 30, 1992 at the family homestead on Ridgewood Ave. He was cremated and his ashes are with a family member. A local Legion Post honored him with a ceremony at which an American flag was presented to family.
