Charles Cook
Charles G. "Chuck" Cook, 73, of rural Burlington, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at his home.


Born January 14, 1934, in Eldora, he was the son of Charles E. and Pauline Harsin Cook. On Feb. 4, 1978, he married Betty L. Newsom Wirt in Nashua.

Mr. Cook was manager for Farmers Coop Elevator in Knoxville for 17 years. He later drove a truck for Aldi's, Umthun's and retired in 1995 from Case Fleet. He then worked at Agrilance in Sperry until retiring in 2005.

He was a graduate of Knoxville High School and served in the National Guard.

He attended Sperry United Methodist Church, was a member of Moose Lodge No. 579 in Burlington and enjoyed fishing, boating and riding motorcycles.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike Wirt of Burlington, Nick Wirt of McKinney, Texas, and Michael Cook of Chicago; one daughter, Julie Morris of Knoxville; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, including Jonna Systma of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral for Mr. Cook will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Lunning Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

There will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon at the Moose Lodge following the committal service.

A memorial has been established.
